My take on : Movie : Lootera

Lootera, a second movie outing of director Vikramaditya Motwane, isnt just a movie, its an beautiful experience of indian storytelling.

Picturesque locations captured in great details, melodious songs that get wonderfully woven into story and do not halt it, lovable characters, and the awesome lead pair.

Story set into 1950s, in post independence Indian era, where lot of socio-economical changes are taking place.

Pakhi, a pampered daughter of a Bengali Zamindar, and Varun an archaeologist meet in her village, when he comes there for archaeological survey in her father's land. Impressed with the young archaeologist, her father invites him to their haveli, as their guest.

Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha have done their best till date with Lootera, in my opinion. They completely own their part.

Their falling in love with each other is depicted very beautifully, and complemented with superb background score, and apt choice of songs. They speak with eyes more than words, suitable to there era, and still express effectively. This film is remarkable for both the lead actors for sure.

The supporting cast is equally good. Barun Chanda as a proud zamindar facing painfull changes after independence. His line "duniya badal rahi hai.. aap angrezose azad hue.. aur hum azadi se barbaad hue" speaks a lot about the reforms in that time, and the feeling of the rulers of past. Vikrant Massey is pleasant as friend of Varun. (Ranveer Singh) Adil Hussain's face is kept mostly in dark, otherwise i feel he would have made better impact. Divya Dutta hasnt much to do as a maid to Pakhi (Sonakshi).

The cinematography by Mahendra Shetty is simply superb. Director Vikramaditya has with just his second movie, (previous being Udaan) has proved that he is the talented man to watch out for. And last but not least, melodious songs composed by Amit Triverdi, and meaningful lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya have resulted into an album with all splendid songs. "Muze Chhod Do" is my favorite.

Lootera, a must watch for the experience of wonderfull Indian Cinema.

My rating : ****
